The Oak River Design Process

Oak River Design provides custom home design, renovations, and additions with a structured, collaborative process focused on clarity and buildability. By confirming key decisions early and producing well-coordinated drawings, we help support a smooth construction experience from design through permitting.

CUSTOM HOME DESIGN

We specialize in custom residential design for clients seeking thoughtfully planned homes that balance aesthetics, function, and long-term livability.

1. Discovery & Direction

Every custom home project begins with a focused conversation to understand your goals, lifestyle needs, site conditions, and budget considerations. This early alignment establishes a clear design direction and helps guide decisions throughout the project.

2. Design Review & Final Alignment

With the design fully developed, we review preliminary drawings together, including floor plans, elevations, and key architectural details. This step confirms that the design reflects your vision before moving forward. Once approved, the design is formally signed off and advanced into construction documentation.

3. Construction Documents

We develop a complete, permit-ready set of construction drawings designed for accuracy, clarity, and buildability. These documents provide builders with a reliable roadmap for pricing and construction.

RENOVATIONS and ADDITIONS

Our home renovation and addition design services focus on thoughtful integration of new spaces with existing homes. Careful documentation and early planning help identify constraints and reduce surprises during construction.

1. Site Visit & Existing Conditions

Renovation projects begin with an on-site visit to document existing conditions. Measurements and as-built drawings are prepared to establish an accurate foundation for the design.

2. Design Development & Preliminary Review

Using the documented conditions, we develop renovation and addition designs that include updated floor plans, exterior improvements, and 3D modeling.

Once drawings are prepared, we meet to review the design together. Redline edits and real-time adjustments are made when possible to refine the layout and architectural direction.

3. Design Refinement & Approval

Following the preliminary review, revisions are completed to finalize the design. One major revision is included at this stage to ensure alignment before construction drawings begin. Once approved, the design is signed off and prepared for documentation.
